Blu talks No York and New album with Exile

In part 1 of this interview Blu gives Hard Knock TV insight into his new album and Major label debut, No York, which is going through its mixing stages right now and will be out this summer (with enough songs to make it a triple album).

Blu also states that he is experimenting with an electric hip hop type sound. Production for No York, includes Dibiase, Flying Lotus, Knxwledge, Sam I am, Exile, Madlib, Shafiq, Bilal, J*DaVeY and Sa-Ra. As far as MC collaborations on No York, Blu states that you can expect Edan, Donel Smokes, Double-O, Definite and Nola Darling.

Blu says that there is another album with him and Exile that is complete but besides what the rumors say it's not going to be called Below the Heavens 2. He also says that he has put producing on the side for a bit because he had a hunger to get back on the raps and pick up the pen again. Part 2 with Blu next week.

Time is Now Documentary | Black History Month Tribute

"Black History Month serves as an influential reminder to all of us of the lives, dedication and passion that went into music, arts and culture and the lives that were given so that we have what we have today.

There seems to be a constant disconnect between the history of black and urban music and what is being produced today, #teamtimeisnow came together to make a stand and dedicate an original song to this historic month.

Witness now what has been documented and said about this historic song & the people behind the music." Props to Jules Ms Understood for sending this one over.

Who'd They Sample? Saturdays: Dom Kennedy- Guess Who It Is

This is such a dope song off Dom's mixtape "25th Hour". "But now I ride around with me now in the trunk, Yellin' get out the way my ni**a it's me now in the front, I'm about to buy a Porsche put the cheese down in a month, like come out the house ma that's me down in the front."

Scarface became the president of Def Jam South the year before this release. With his Gift Raps project finally set for release on March 1st, Chip is getting ready to turn things into high gear. Ellie Goulding: Lights (Bassnectar Remix)

Bassnectar's remix of Ellie Goulding's Lights. This is kinda off the path for me but I dig it. It must be the weed, I mean shoes.

Shad: Keep Shining

Note from the Director:
"To me, the "Keep Shining" video is an ode to the strong and often under-appreciated spirits of women. This video was designed as a candid and thought/emotion-provoking concept. My goals were to create a candid and uplifting experience that featured a wide diversity of women and girls and to also unearth what I felt lay beneath the lyrics: A call to claim one's voice. Early on, I realized a key to this concept: Shad barely appears in the video. The ladies own the lyrics. For me, it's as if Shad is saying "take it, own it, your voice belongs to you." It was my intention to show strength, vulnerability, joy, catharsis and reclamation of the spirit of all those who appeared in these 3 minutes and 44 seconds. My hope is that it will speak to women, girls, men and boys and everything in between. Let's all "Keep Shining"."

TiRon & Ayomari: Good Food

Mmm time to roll up. Be on the lookout for an interview with Ayomari!

Atmosphere The Family Sign (Artwork x Tracklist)

"Atmosphere returns with their 7th official studio album and the newest addition to their unparalleled body of work. The Family Sign comes from a place well refined and firmly planted, from a universal perspective. It’s about being okay with losing friends and strengthening your bonds with others, celebrating the person who’s been the most positive in your life, your kids, your homies, leaving the people you need to behind, and bringing the ones you love with you. It’s about your family, your time and the time you have with them. It’s about living and dying. It’s the truth about family, that it comes from loyalty as much as biology. It’s about breaking down your perceptions of family and really appreciating the people who’ve made you who you are and continue doing so.

The Family Sign is Atmosphere’s most personal and intimate album yet; it involves and engages the listener like never before. Slug’s signature voice weaves in and out of Ant’s ASR-born production, Nate Collis’ bluesy guitar riffs and the sound of Erick Anderson’s unmistakable keys giving The Family Sign a fresh, unique edge without sacrificing Atmosphere’s signature sound."

Who'd They Sample? Saturdays: Chip Tha Ripper- Don't Come Into My Hood (Bone Thugs Cover)

I mean I knew Chip had a cool, laid back flow but damn! He's got that BTNH flow down so good! Gets Krayzie on it!

Here's what wiki says about the song: "Days of Our Livez" is a single by Bone Thugs-n-Harmony. The instrumental is primarily based on "Tender Love" by Force MDs and "Making Love in the Rain" by Herb Alpert. It was released on the soundtrack to the movie Set It Off and is featured in the film. The song also appears the group's 1998 compilation album The Collection Volume One and Bone's greatest hits album. It reached number 53 on the UK Singles Chart, and was later certified Gold by the RIAA. It is also considered an underrated classic and one of Bone's greatest hits with its slow, melodic tone similar to that of "Tha Crossroads".

Kanye West: Power (To The People Remix)

"This is a video in support of #jan25 in Egypt, connecting the lyrics of Kanye West’s “Power (Remix)” featuring Jay-Z, with sounds from the actual site, images, flickers, openings of the interval, the opening of history as such. I just think it’s important that Western youth really get enthused by it, especially hip hop culture, and Kanye’s fashions and lyrics especially in this remix: “power to the people” I seen people abuse power, “use power, misuse and then lose power, power to the people at last, it’s a new hour” “the world in our lap”. So I take those particular snippets. “but you could at least grab a camera shoot a viral.”

So I made this video particularly for that reason, since this is a historic event that I feel not only validates the fact that history is never over, which is valuable for hood youth for sure, but it also validates hip hop in another sense, and finally I just hope to see more talk about this event in hip hop culture as a whole."
